Last week’s January meeting

Last week Sustainable Witney met at the Fleece for the two-monthly meeting. We had a lot to get through, including:

  • An upcoming Madley Park Swapshop and Upcycling Day on 8 June, organized in conjunction with the Madley Park Residents Association
  • The possibility of a local crop swap/tool repair event in Witney: details to be announced soon
  • Planning our next round of thermal imaging in February, plus a meeting with people who have already had their houses imaged (there’s no more space on our February schedule, unfortunately!)
  • Looking ahead to the return of Refashion in November, following the success of last year’s Witney Refashion
  • Lots of bits of administration: people volunteering to do blogposts and make bunting for us; reports on meetings with other groups; and discussing accounts, the constitution etc.

Once the committee business was over, we met up with Sarah Burns and Peter Lefort of CAG Oxfordshire, to discuss the new community impact model.  Three other West Oxon sustainable groups joined us, to see how we can use this useful tool to record our data and how we can use this to see how much of an impact our events etc are having in reducing carbon and promoting sustainable living.

We hope to meet again in a couple of months, when we’ll be joined by the Oxfordshire Woodfuel Programme, who’ll give a talk about how we might set up community initiatives for domestic woodfuel:

  • Help to organise a community woodfuel purchasing programme
  • Try to organise a ‘logs for labour’ swap between local woodland owners who could use free help in managing their woodland, and community members who would be willing to do woodland work in return for woodfuel
  • Advise on how local woodlands can be managed for woodfuel and biodiversity
  • Advise on opportunities and funding for woodfuel boilers

For the next meeting, we should hopefully announce the date here so do register to subscribe to our blogposts, but regardless: if you’re interested in getting more closely involved with Sustainable Witney and the committee, then get in touch directly!

Edit: venue was originally incorrect.
